Artvocacy

Just a note about what my skirt and I were up to today... I volunteer with the Dallas branch of the International Rescue Committee, a leading nonsectarian organization dedicated to refugee relief, protection and resettlement (That was taken from their website...) Anyway, it's an amazing organization. Working with the kids from the IRC, has been so rewarding. I feel so selfish, it has made such a positive impact in my life. That may sound cliché, but seriously - it's not... its da truf.

Anyway, tomorrow night, Thursday, May 17th, the 3rd annual fundraiser, “Artvocacy: Advocacy through Art,” takes place at Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas, from 6 - 9 PM. Admission is $40 for the general public and $25 for students and refugees. Admission includes refreshments and live entertainment. All proceeds from the event will go to support local refugees and IRC programs in Dallas.

IRC! Oooh I'm so happy to be part of the Skirt Project! You do so much--job, school, acting, skirt project....wha what? And you volunteer? How do you do it all?? You've been an absolute gem to the Youth Program.

(PS: ARTvocacy went well. There were many former and current refugee clients in attendance. If I may make one correction, refugee clients did not have to pay to come to the event, sponsorships of $25 paid for them.)
