Skirt 24

Running away from it all... I dream about it!

Another mini-skirt. I bought this skirt last winter at United Colors of Benetton. It was part of a suit, but I thought the jacket was too boxy and too expensive. The skirt is super-cute by itself, and it was on sale. It's a wool blend, but I thought I could pull it off today because it's so cloudy... again.

Today's skirt is just like Skirt 11, except it's charcoal gray with black and brown tweed. There are six buttons in the front, and it's got a little more flow to it. When I wear leggings, flats and short skirts I feel like Degas dancer. A colleague told me I looked like a school girl.

I spent today in a perpetual state of WTF?
At least the sun came out.
Ugh! Do you ever have days like this?

It's a new exhibition... It's not rocket science.
I just don't get it, or perhaps I don't want to.

Later that night close to midnight, the skirt shot of the day arrived. Donna Huanca drove in from Houston to install her piece.

It's amazing. A great piece...
Great skirt.

Come check it out for yourself...

Skirt 23

I'm going for the French girl thing today. I've never paired these patterns together before.

Today's skirt is black with big white flowers. The flowers are outlined in blue embroidery floss, which adds a nice touch. I'm a sucker for little details like that. I like the fabric, but I always refer to this as my Muumuu skirt, because it looks like a Muumuu could be made out of it.

I like the fit, it's very comfortable. It hits below my knees, but bells out at my hips in four inch pleats all the way around. It looks nice, even when it's not ironed (like today), and I feel pretty dressed up in it. Today's skirt is about three years old. It's from the Gap, was on sale for $19.99, and came in white too. I bought the black one because two other people I knew had the same skirt in white. I think I thought I was going to move away or something...
(sigh)

Rain, rain go away!

So the rain came today. Man, did it pour! I was stranded at a meeting at Starbucks, so my friend took some pics.

I spent the rest of the day in jeans, we're getting ready for a new exhibition which opens this Friday.
I miss denim.

Skirt 22

I made it in from Austin. Drove in this morning. I was a little groggy. Back to the grind... Harrumph...

Today's skirt is NEW! (61 skirts now...)
No, I didn't buy it; actually it was a gift from a girlfriend. Funny thing is, I've never received a skirt as a gift. Today's skirt is so pretty. Very light and airy, I feel like I look like I'm floating. (It's the color.) It has two layers of Indian sari material, 100% silk. Nice.
I went back to the kiosk with Laura yesterday to select one that I liked. It was Laura's idea. They were all so different and beautiful. I chose today's skirt because of the colors. I don't own an aqua or orange skirt, AND the fabric has sparkles in it. Not only is it reversible, but it's also very versatile. It can be worn a couple of different ways as a skirt, but also a couple of different ways as a dress. I'll try to demonstrate later today, but here is a pic of the sales lady showing me how to tie/wrap this skirt as a dress. What could be better than multi-functional clothing?

Earlier I mentioned that my skirt was versatile. My wrap skirt came with directions for the following styles, so I thought I would try it out. Scroll down for the fashion show. (I need to learn how to make this into an animated giff. That would be cool.)
BTW, these are the names of the styles that came on the directions. Lame...

Just thought I would show the reverse side.

Bangkok
Super-cute! I like the tiered effect because it shows off the color combo.

Barcelona
Maybe with jeans or something... I might wear this.

Cozumel
Nope. Don't think so. Way too hard to put on.

Ibiza
Absolutely not! There are so many things wrong with this style...

Monaco
Maybe... needs some tweaking, I thought the waist was too high.

Paris
Definitely not. I don't think I'm doing this right.

St. Tropez
I love this! I'm digging this aqua color!

Venice
Why, it's the reverse of the St. Tropez!

This is the perfect travel skirt! Thank you Laura, I love it!

Skirt21

It's Memorial Day, which means I don't have to work today. No worries though, I am wearing a skirt. I bought today's skirt at Urban Outfitters on sale for $9.99 about two years ago. It's a basic khaki cotton mini skirt. It's got pockets (hoo-ray!) and a four inch slit up the front, making it easier to play in. And, that's exactly what I intend to do today... my skirt and I are in Austin. I love this town.

Hanging with my girl Laura. Double skirt shot.

Eating at Dog Almighty. (Have I mentioned that I LOVE hot dogs?)

At Mt. Bonnell.

At Lake Travis... Now this is living.
You never know where the day will take you.

Skirt 20 In Almost 24 Hours...

24 Hour Art Blast at the Dallas Contemporary

Dallas Contemporary is hosting it's 24 Hour Art Blast & Party. It started at noon today (5.25.07) and will go until noon tomorrow (5.26.07). There will be three exhibitions at 12 noon, 8 pm and 4 am tomorrow. There are art projects, food, music, yoga, Capoeira demonstrations and skirts!

(It's busy here, so I will update Skirt 19 and 20 this weekend!)

I almost forgot... today's skirt is utilitarian. Perfect for 24 hours. It was expensive, I bought it with my first real paycheck in 2003. The brand is sanctuary. I love the design of the skirt. It has lots of tucks, bows, pockets and it's made of the most awesome cotton. It's so soft and worn. Unfortunately, it's not that well constructed. It's coming apart at a seam in the back. I know I'm probably the only person that knows this, but it really bothers me. I haven't fixed it since it ripped three years ago, therefore I hardly ever wear this skirt.
