Sick Skirt

Today's skirt is new. I bought it last month at J.Crew when they were having their summer clearance. It's cute and teacher-y. It's brown linen and has two pockets to tote classroom keys in. It's been a while since I've carried them, I used to wear them on a lariet.

My apartment wasn't ready today and I really need to sleep. I've lost my voice and in no shape to be around kids. I am staying at the CasaMagna Marriott for the weekend. It has the most beautiful bed I have ever seen in my life (at least that's what I feel at this moment anyway). I really need to catch up on some Z's and this is a lovely place to do it.

Later, wearing Skirt 65, I went to check out the sunset. I hear they are stunning here. I walked along the water, it's warm and the sound of the ocean is soothing.

It's been a tough first week, but I've learned some important lessons. This sunset is the reminder that I need to realize why I decided to try THIS something different.

School Spirit Skirt

Today was the first day with the kids. I lost my voice. My apartment's not ready. I feel awful - stick your bottom lip out awful. Only one thing will make me feel better, shopping and food! Wait... that's two things.

The students at my school wear uniforms. You can buy them at Lans, a department store here. It's not a skirt, it's a skort. It's also way too tight, but I had to post it on the blog.

Torrential downpour today. Matches my mood. It will pass, sunny skies ahead...

Fairy Pink Skirt

This is a Fairy Pink Skirt. It belongs to Teri Jo, Kindergarten teacher. From what I understand, the skrit can be seen around Puerto Vallarta, especially on the Malecón on Día de los Niños.

I meet some of the kids tomorrow. I'm sick. Stressed, but ok because I found a place to live and tomorrow I will move into my apartment.

Nancy's Skirt

I didn't wear a skirt today, but thankfully Nancy did! It's adorable and check out her fabulous shoes!

She's done a great job putting her classroom together, maybe it's time I started on mine...

As I was walking back to my isolated corner of the campus, I hear voices and BAM... BAM... BAM...

When I walked around the corner I found Lucy and Cuca whacking into this coconut with a machete! The coconut tree is right outside my classroom door.

Getting to the good stuff.

Check out this spindly thing. The coconuts fall from it. Totally weird... I smell a drawing assignment.

First Day of School Skirt

Well, it's not really an ideal situation, but it's different... a change of pace.
I'm in Puerto Vallarta, just started work today.

First Day of School Skirt.

I bought First Day of School Skirt at Buffalo Exchange in Portland, OR. I liked it because of the bright red flowers on the white cotton pleats. It has three big red buttons in the center (they are covered up) that pull down like a marsupial pouch. It has to be one of the weirdest designs I've ever seen, but that's exactly why I bought it. I thought it was a rare find, but I was disappointed to walk into the Buffalo Exchange in Dallas and see it there. How exactly does that work? Someone's got me fooled thinking they sell resale pieces...

Skirt Project is a work in progress at this point. I'm not sure how it will work down here as I have many shorts and cool dresses now. Plus, I didn't bring that many skirts that are new.

Many of the skirts that I brought have been worn already, and while I was packing I realized how ridiculous it was to have 65 skirts. How many skirts does a girl need??? I'm not sure. I have a problem. There is nothing like trying to pack your life into two suitcases to make you realize that. Anyway, I'm going to make do with what I have and try to stay cool as it's so hot down here. I haven't quite put my finger on it, but it's a slightly different kind of heat than Texas or Washington DC.

The food is excellent. I love the tacos and pan dulce.
Speaking Spanish is challenging, but that's alright. I'll get the hang of it eventually.

View from the plane. I flew first class. Not bad...

View from the balcony of the high school. The view is of the Primary School and cafeteria. Can't wait to meet the munchkins!

So, my living situation is dismal right now, but I'm working on it. We'll see...
To get away from it all, in the meantime, all I have to do is walk across four lanes of busy traffic, go into the resort across the street, pass the swimming pool with the swim-up bar, pass the full beds draped in white linen and this is my view:

A little, little, very tiny piece of heaven. The water is warm... perfect actually, but it's no fun alone.
