Tickled Pink

I'm wearing a pink skirt today, Skirt 60, because one of my kiddos asked me to wear a pink dress.
I also plan to update later today, I have lots to blog about:

Sweet Things
More animal projects for kids
Skirt Project
Exciting events

I'm tickled pink!

Checkered Days...

You never know where inspiration will find you.

The bathroom.

I've been sick, and while I feel better, I am on medication which is not making me feel good at all. Now I have more medication to combat the side effects of the antibiotics. I'm sort of miserable right now... and a kid threw up on me today.
After a shower, I put on my favorite blouse and one of my prettiest skirts, Skirt 42. It doesn't really match, but whatever...

Happy feet!

I came across this disposable camera outside of Murray Street tied to a string. It had a note attached to it. It said, "Photo Nerds wanted!"

I love collaborative projects like this. Check out photopol.us.

Yeah, I took a skirt shot.

Later that night at The Granada, And You Will Know Up By The Trail Of The Dead rocked the house!

And more checkers were added to my collection.

Orange Crush

My brother came in town for business, his birthday is on Friday.
That's why I wore Skirt 44...

It was a beautiful day for my beautiful skirt!

Some nice lace-y detail when I look down:
My big brothers and parents (who have been divorced for 25+ years) went out for some Mexican food, 'cause you can't get good stuff in the Northeast. (So he says...) I made my big bro this cake...

It's orange and white because those were his high school colors, and the colors of the University of Texas, where both of my brothers went to school. Except me, I always have to be different.
It's not my best cake, but I tried some different techniques in a hurry. (Note: sour apple candy and chocolate cut outs.)

Everyone enjoyed it, at least they said they did...

I never laughed so hard as I did tonight... At least it has been a while. That's what happens when we get together. I love my family, and I love that hell didn't freeze over for all of us to eat in peace, have a good laugh, and all be together. It was better than old times.

Puppets & Muppets

We made paper sack monkeys today. We're studying jungle animals with my twos. I did some prep work for this:
I cut the feet, hands, tails and faces.
BUT, my kids learned how to glue as you can see by the mess below:

And they drew their own faces...

A conversation with a two year old:

Me: What's your monkey's name?
Two-Year-Old: Ooo-Ooo, Aah-Aah

Tomorrow we're starting our big zebra puppets with my threes. We're studying Africa. I traced 18 of these big boys today... It only took me an hour.

I've been thinking a lot about Muppets lately, don't ask... Anyway, I used to LOVE the Muppet Show, but used to be so afraid to be in the dark after watching the show.
I blame these guys:

Statler and Waldorf.

Of course I used to love this guy:

From my school days in Vallarta last year.  I can draw a mean Kermit! (By mean I mean, damn good, not mean.)

And my favorite female was NOT Miss Piggy, she was not nice!
I loved Janice!

She's so cool...

So, I've been thinking about what I would look like if I were a Muppet. I think I would be pink, I'm working on a sketch right now. But, yesterday I came across this site on FAO Schwarz:
The Muppet Whatnot Workshop. They make custom Muppets!
So, I decided to play around with it...
I like this one 'cause she's wearing a skirt.
She's cool, but I don't like my color combo and my hair is CURLY and black, and they don't give you that option. Oh well, back to the drawing board...

Another Gift

Today's skirt is a gift from Marianne, a thank you from the time I stayed at her cat castle. She gave me seven skirts! One would have been plenty, but ~ that's why I love my friends. The cut of this skirt is so feminine. It's Fossil, I love the floral pattern, and I think this color blue and green are a nice combination. What's more, I have 4 others that she gave me that I haven't even worn yet!
(sigh...)
If only the days were longer and warmer...
I'm ready for Spring.
I'm ready to wear skirts again.
I want to put my coats and jeans away...

A haiku to make me feel better:

I'm ready for Spring
Texas sun warms wondrous days
Freedom in a skirt

Valentine File

This weekend was a 3-day Valentine's celebration with my all of my sweet kiddos and friends. It was special in so many ways...

Skirt 34 at my two-year-old's first Valentine's party.

I gave rainbow makers to all my Valentines this year...
These now hang in my classroom(s), and other places I think are special. Anytime rainbows happen, it's special.

I got flowers, lots of chocolate, lots of Play-doh and rocks:

Did you see how many rocks my kids gave me???

Our school party was great! We had ice cream sundaes with red, pink and purple Valentine sprinkles.

And, we tried this cute idea that I got off Bakerella, a great baking blog. These little heart cakes were fun and easy to make, but not as special as a homemade treat. It' been a while since I've baked a sweet treat...

We cut the hearts out of Cakesters. FYI, Oreo Cakesters taste SO MUCH BETTER than the Nilla Cakesters.

Viola! and so Yummy!
Check out Bakerella for better pictures and instructions.

This is the book I read to my kiddos at story time:

Which inspired a cheese-y valentine I made...

'cause I just can't help myself.

My new skirt with RE's leg.

It was a gift from my friend Molly, just because... - my favorite kind of gift. This was my first time to wear it and I love it; it's so frilly and fun!

Two skirts chatting it up...

Dang, she's so tall!

4 Reasons to Celebrate

1)  It's my 400th post. I can't believe it!

2) It's also the start of my 3 day Valentine celebration. (Insert finger in mouth, gag). I've never been one for this holiday. I used to fake sickness so I could stay home from school. Now, I'm in the position to influence my little kiddies and their association with Valentine's Day. It's funny, it's karma, but I think this year is going to be just fine.

3) It's also Abraham Lincoln's birthday.

I've been looking at old photos from my time in DC.

4) And today is also Charles Darwin's birthday.

Off to school I go in Skirt 34.

Pink Skirt for my Pink Eye(s)

Yes, I know it's gross, but I have to make light of the situation. Even though I stayed home from work today, I had some things to do...

Last month I wrote a review for THE magazine. Read it here.

I have another review to write for the Latino Cultural Center's exhibition Papel Chicano: Works on Paper from the Collection of Cheech Marin

I enjoy going to LCC. I've been before in different skirts:
Skirt 4, here and
Skirt 28, here.
I'm not sure what number this is, but here I sit in my pink skirt, taking the exhibition in with my pink and puffy eyes.

One neat thing about the building by Logorreta y Logorreta are all of the different lines, angles, and shadows that occur at different times of the day.

Look up. Let the sun shine in.

Look down.

This fun scarf is from Mexico... which reminds me that I still have many pictures to post from my trip to San Miguel and Guanajuato last summer. It's never too late, right?

By my car, I spotted this sticker:

Hey! I've been ther
e!

again in this one,
this one,
and this one too.

You don't see a Sayulita sticker on a car too often. I think someone is trying to tell me something...

Now, I am home, blogging and writing from bed.
My inspiration:

Boo Hiss

I'm sick, but more importantly I'm sad... to wake up to news that Craft Magazine is folding. In the past month I have lost three of my beloved publications...

R.I.P.

And I'm still brooding over losing Blueprint a year ago...

Weekend Adventures

I wore a new skirt for part of the weekend. It's from J.Crew and is actually sold as a "convertible swing dress," but it can be worn three different ways, like Units from the 80s. Remember that store? A skirt could be worn as a belt, tube top or headband.

Anyway, this dress can be worn as a simple strapless dress, which I LOVE! I envision myself wearing this in Mexico very soon... The second way isn't too flattering, but basically it's like a strapless swing empire waist dress. And finally a full circle skirt.

I bought it in black and demonstrate here:
at Olive Garden for my nephews fifth birthday party. What a big boy!

And here

at La Reunion TX with my sturdy shoes and pants required to tour the site and tree carving projects. Read about it here.

The site...

Art projects

This one is covered in car parts.

I see trees of green...

red roses too...

I see 'em bloom... for me and for you
And I think to myself... what a wonderful world.

This weekend was also the weekend to say YES.

Would you like to go to the Mavs game?

YES! (The Mavs played the Chicago Bulls. The Mavs won 115 to 114 in overtime. It was very exciting!)

Would you like some tickets to the inaugural Dallas Art Fair?

YES!

Wood you like to tour Urban Reserve?

YES!

Maybe someday I'll have my own tree house too...
