Skirt 32

Wish I had gotten more pics in Skirt 31, but it's C R A Z Y busy for me right now. Oh well... that's too bad, because I had a great day and the skirt IS really cute.

Moving onward... Today's skirt is a fun, flirty, flouncy - flouncy skirt. It's from Ralph Lauren's more casual line called Polo Jeans. I bought it because I used to have this other skirt, a long, long, long time ago, and the fabric of this skirt reminded me of the other skirt I used to have. Make sense? Anyway, black and white was all I used to wear.
This fabric is black and white paisley. Very feminine and very cowgirl. The cut of this skirt is great. It's constructed of several panels with extra panels sewn in towards the bottom, to give the skirt more "body" or flounce. And it is very flouncy and free. This skirt is a little bit too big on me, but I bought it that way because I HAD to have it. I love it! I imagine this would be a fun skirt to dance in. I wish I had some cowgirl boots...

Later that day... back at the ranch...
Actually it was La Hacienda in Frisco(?) I think it was Frisco... (All I know is I'm pretty close to Oklahoma right now.) I got together with my family to have dinner this evening. The occasion? My aunt and uncle are in town and I have not seen them in over TEN years! I come from a really big family on my dad's side. Anyway...
My sis wore a skirt to humor me. Good sport! Cute skirt! She says I bought it for her, but I don't remember that...

Here we are with the bear...

Here I am on a horsey! Yay!

P.S. Look what came in the mail today.

Skirt 31

Another something I like to say...
"Thirty-one, thirty FUN!" And this IS a fun skirt. I remember seeing it in the J.Crew store about 3 years ago, I wanted it so badly. I paid lots of money for it, considering it's a skirt. I didn't buy it immediately, I waited a couple of days to make sure I wanted it... I did. I was waiting tables at the time, $94 is almost all of one night's tips. I remember the first time I wore it: to the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth to see "Annie" with my 3 year old niece. That was a fun night.

Today's skirt is a pleated, khaki pinstripe mini. The pleats are very well constructed and go all around the skirt. It reminds me a little of a cheerleader's skirt. The best part about this skirt is the little beige bow that ties around the waist. Sometime in my early to mid twenties, I turned into a girlie-girl, or at least I embraced this part of my skirt personality that was always there, hidden. The bow adds a girlie touch. Super-cute!

I usually don't wear this skirt because I feel that it's a bit too short for the office. (It's not.) Also, I couldn't find a top to wear with it that I felt comfortable in. I'm over that now... Who cares. I like this skirt. I feel great in it.

For XXX ~ Baggage Project

Morning Kids...
This is for you.

As I mentioned in Skirt 28, I'm working with some great kids from North Dallas High School. Their Baggage Project is due today, so I thought I'd do the project too. It's not as involved as some of theirs will be. (I kind of took the easy way out.)

Let me tell you about Baggage Project. Students brought in a bag, of any shape, size or form. They spent some of last week repurposing this object that is used to hold things, to hold their "baggage." Whatever it is that keeps us from pursuing our dreams, tells us we can't, or brings us down. There comes a time when you have to STOP, deal with it, make a decision not to continue with these thoughts or habits and move forward.

Baggage Project is supposed to:
eXpose it ~ share it with others
eXpell it ~ get rid of it
eXit ~ Quit carrying it around.

This is my baggage.
I am a very disorganized person. Messy is a better word. It effects me daily. I hate living in such a mess, actually it drives me crazy. Chaos seems to follow me everywhere ~ like Pig Pen from Charlie Brown. Part of my problem is that I have so much CRAP. I'm in the midst of utter craziness in my life: work, school, living situation, etc. But, it seems that there is always something because there will ALWAYS be something.

To start, I filled three shopping bags with trash and crap from my life. In the bags were magazines, catalogs, hangers, shoes, cookie boxes, Starbucks cups, makeup, un-used sample beauty products, etc. Whatever I could get my hands on in 30 minutes. This is just the start of Baggage Project. I have many, many more bags to fill. I may be working on this all my life, but I hope not.

Thanks for letting me share~

Ladies!!!... meet the boyfriend shirt skirt

"Don't go into the light Carol Ann!"

This picture didn't make it into GAP week, but I wanted to share it with you. It was taken by my friend photographer Beau Comeaux. His photos are absolutely stunning. Check him out this winter at Marty Walker.

And now for the boyfriend shirt skirt
This week I had an idea... it came to me in a dream, a lucid dream. Love those... Anyway, this is NOT a boyfriend's shirt, but actually one I picked up at Garland Thrift earlier this week just to try this idea out. It worked!

Follow the directions below...

Step 1:

Start with your boyfriend's shirt, or in my case... some random dude's shirt. Preferably with good taste. Mine is DKNY, 100% cotton, and a large.

Step 2:

Unbutton the top three buttons so that it fits comfortably on your waist.

Step 3:

Tightly wrap the arms around your waist to begin a square knot (right over left).

Step 4:

Complete the square knot (left over right).

Step 5:
Enjoy having his arms wrapped around you all day long!

My toes are always flexed for some reason, a nervous habit...

3 reasons I dig the Shirt Skirt
1. This is a great skirt to wear on hot days, a perfect beach cover up.
2. It's great if you are doing a painting project with kids. Another way to wear a smock.
3. It's another option for the morning after... the walk of shame.

Skirt 30

Dirty Thirty… just a little something I like to say.

Halfway there! And it's my last skirt from GAP. Today's skirt is a lovely lavender A-line, cotton skirt. It has this really nice delicate floral embroidery on a handkerchief hem. I really like the way that this skirt fits. It's a longer skirt, and it makes me feel pretty when I walk because of the way it trails behind me. I believe this skirt came in two colors: aqua and lavender. I bought the lavender one because I didn’t own anything in this color. It’s very nice. Very Easter-y.

Yes, it was on sale. Why pay full price for anything at GAP?

Total skirts from GAP: 8 (Actually, 9... I have a thick, black and white, wool, tweed skirt that I wear in the fall and winter. It's in storage.)

Had lunch today with my friends at Kalachandji's. It was my second time to eat there this week.

At Murray Street for an afternoon pick me up. Check out that skirt. Check out that golden beer... wish I could.

Getting ready for CityArts... gotta hustle the muscle.
¿Podemos hacerlo? ¡Sí, podemos!

Skirt 29

I'm covered in lint this morning... I had a strong cup of coffee and cleaned for aboout an hour, something I NEVER do.

Another black skirt from GAP. This one is alright. The fabric is a bit faded, but I love the cut and shape of the skirt. It has six panels, and bells out to form a perfect A-line. Very sweet, I feel like a bell(e).

Working hard today...

or hardly working...

Defiantly (sp) a combination of both.

Skirt 28

I had the hardest time figuring out what to wear with today's skirt. It's supposed to hit 91°. I usually wear this skirt in the winter with boots. This skirt is gray, but it doesn't really match my mood. Sure, I'm tired... but so happy inside! (Maybe it's my skirt?)

Today's skirt is very professional. It's a gray polyester blend. Kind of like banker pants, but in a skirt. It's lined (which is a nice quality), is A-line, hits at the knee and has pockets in the front and in the back! Woo hoo!

Another sale find from GAP. I bought this skirt between 1997 and 2000. I know this because these were the years that I worked at Purple Glaze, a paint your own pottery shop in University Park. Good times! Maybe this is where I started to become addicted to skirts? At least skirts from GAP. Our shop was right next to GAP, so during our breaks we would go and cruise the sale items. Because I was such a regular, I got insider information that markdowns always happened on Tuesday's. At the time I didn't have any skirts like this... I was pretty earthy; all about the linen and cotton,. But, change is good. I figured I'd wear it to work when I got a REAL job.
*********************************************************************************
My REAL job... I love it. So much fun! I'm working with a great group of students from North Dallas High School. It's a summer camp called XXX. It's a very cool, integrated arts and writing program. The theme is all about Happiness and finding your inner bliss. We had a field trip today to the Latino Cultural Center.

We checked out the Art of the Print exhibition there. There are some amazing works on paper by Posada, Siqueiros, Orozco, Tamayo, to name a few. It's quite a collection on loan here from DC for a short time ~ July 7th. Curator Viola Delgado was there with us and set up a special talk with curator and art historian Stephen Vollmer. Very interesting... this is the part I love about my job. I'm still learning...

We had to trip it via DART. I had never been to Cityplace Station. It's cool. The train platform is 10 stories underground.

going down...

going up...

It was a pretty chill day, until I remembered that speeding ticket from Skirt 13. Today was my LAST day to request defensive driving. Always waiting 'til the last minute...

Skirt 27

Today's skirt is black... I'm in "mourning." He's gone to Utah...

Another sale find from GAP. It was on sale for $9.99. I hardly wear it because it's very matronly. I can't decide if it's flattering or not. It's made of 100% cotton, fitted at the top and then bells out from four big pleats at the waist. It hit's just below my knees.

So tired today... taking a coffee break at Murray Street.

Skirt 26

I had so much fun in Skirt 25!... Don't know if I'll be able to top that one.

Today's skirt is basic, fun and comfortable. It's a pink cotton mini that's sligtly A-line and hits right at my knees. It's from GAP and it seems that most of my skirts from GAP were bought during the same time~ about the time I was ending a L O N G relationship and starting a new career, roughly two years ago. I know I mentioned this in skirt 5, but because of the area that I lived in (HP), I would drive to get coffee and get back in my car with a tall Americano AND a bag full of tank tops, skirts, and accessories. Whatever I liked or thought I needed.

I don't wear this skirt very often, but when I do, I like to wear it with this bling-y ribbon belt just for fun, another purchase from the "bubble". It makes it not so boring. I feel like a prep today... nothing wrong with that. It's the first day of my last semester in school.

University of North Texas

I started class today: Non-profit Theory and Management...I wonder if I can turn Skirt Project into a 501(c)3... just kidding. I turned in my application for graduation this August, BUT I'm not sure how things will turn out. Applicants must have a 3.00 GPA, and mine is 2.91... BOO!!! It may work out because some of my classes from Texas A & M Commerce have not been applied towards my degree. I was pretty smart there... 3.75. Why do I always have to do things the hard way? Disappointed. (sigh) Disappointed in myself.

Keep your fingers crosses. I am so ready to be done with this place.
*****************************************************
Later that day... playing in Denton County

On the way to watch the sunset on Lake Ray Roberts, we stopped at the "Dam" Store.

I'm "Dam" special.... Damn right!

Interesting skirt shot... Got a little too close to that slobbery dog.
SPICE

BTW, Skirt 26 topped 25.

Skirt 25

I can't believe it's Skirt 25!

Today's skirt is yet another mini. It's from Target when Prouenza Shouler had their label there last fall. It's black velvet and VERY short. It's about three sizes too big because I didn't have the guts to wear the one that actually fit on my waist. I reasoned that the lower it sits on my hips, the more inches I get on the bottom.

I bought it partly because my friend Kylie told me not to.
"It's not very professional."
Ha! That's totally why I bought it, and totally why I am wearing it today/tonight.

It's gonna be a 13 hour day! Yay! So excited!

Sike.

Time to go home.

My first skirt shot taken with a cell phone... Lo-fi.

Later that night... Installations and works by Donna Huanca.
