Skirt 40

Also for Marisa, Skirt 40 was basically bought because she encouraged me to do so. We were in NYC shopping last March, and I saw this skirt and wanted to get it. However, I didn't get it at that time because I knew I could find the same skirt in Dallas. I kept waiting for it to go on sale, but whatever... I'm glad I got it, because I love it!

Today's skirt is a red, printed, jersey knit skirt. It's a full A-line with an unfinished hem. The print outlines big pink flowers. Although I haven't been to Italy yet, I feel that this is a skirt that I might find there.

Sorry this has taken so long guys... I really had technical difficulties... No electricity in Philly; A hairdyer blew a fuse.

New York has so many great photo ops.

On the steps of Nathalie and Jeremy's brownstone in Brooklyn. It could be Sesame Street for all I know. Gotta get going! Got a lot of art to see!

Richard Sera's retrospective is on exhibition at the MoMA. I got to walk on a Sera... barefoot.

In front of Monet's Waterlilies.

Dan Perjovschi's Projects 85 was the best, by far. ♥it!

Walking away, what a great day and it's only 1 pm! On my way to Philly, I...
saw Parker Posey
missed my train
caught the next train. It's all good...

With Marisa at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in the Duchamp room.

Running up the steps at the PMA.
(C'mon... you'd do it too if you were there.)

Hmmm. Marisa gave me a great idea...

Look at the crowd we drew!

R O C K Y B A L B O A !!!

(In a skirt! Hell yes!)

Skirt 39

Morning.

Skirts 39 and 40 are for my friend Marisa.

Skirt 39 is from Anthropologie and was purchased because it is black and was on sale. Just a basic black skirt, EXCEPT there is a hint of green underneath a delicately embroidered lace. In fact under the black lace, the panel of green material is bright, electric green. This is a slimming skirt, and I like the silhouette. I'd had the skirt for a while before I noticed the gathering on both sides. I'd never noticed it before until I saw this skirt on Marisa, who also has this skirt. She wore it last summer in D.C. when I met her. Seeing her wear her skirt, made me see it differently. It also made me think about how I wear this skirt, because I tend to only wear this skirt on formal occasions. Today, I'm taking my hint from Marisa last summer and wearing it in a stylish, but more casual way. After all, things are to be used... Skirts are to be worn.

Schlepping my skirt around Boston...

On the train.

Only in New York...

In Little Italy, my friends and I ate at Grotta Azzurra.

Jeremy ordered the skirt steak in my honor. It was tasty- tasty.

Forcast didn't call for rain... Here I am with my friend Nathalie. She does not own ONE skirt... believe me. I looked in her closet and checked.

Hey, Jeremy! This isn't Pants Project! Get outa my shot!

Skirt 38

I'm wearing a new shirt with my skirt. Skirt 38 is a navy blue, comfy, cotton, A-line mini skirt from Anthropologie. It's made of the softest cotton and I adore the color navy blue. There's just something about the way the color conveys casual, comfortable and conservative, all at the same time.
It's got some great stitching detail all over the skirt. There is a narrow piece of the same color fabric that zig-zags across the skirt. There are pockets AND a cute sash to tie it all together.
I can't tell you how many times I've stitched up the front slit of this skirt. I think I must take big steps when I walk because this is not the first skirt that has come apart at the seams.

Making my way through Boston Common...

Make Way for Ducklings...
I ♥ that book and I think that's how my love affair with Boston and art got started when I was younger.

Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name...
Nah, it's too early for that (8:35am!)

Waiting at the Museum of Fine Art, alone on a bench... I got there early to check out the Hopper exhibition. (It was great, BTW) If you look closely in the glass you can see the reflection of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

At the new Institute of Contemporary Art.

In Boston's North End, in front of the statue of Paul Revere...

Later that night... my best meal at Mother Anna's on Hanover Street. Delizioso!

Skirt 37

Check me out in Copley Square.

Today's skirt is one of my favorites. It's similar to Skirt 22; made of vintage Indian fabrics, that are pieced together like a quilt. Since the fabric is old, this skirt is very delicate. It's so bright and colorful, I enjoy wearing this skirt when I feel blue... But, I don't feel that way today, however it is overcast... Forecast calls for a chance of rain.
This skirt is also great for days when you feel a little "heavy." It's adjustable, because it's a wraparound. It is also reversible, but I have yet to wear it with the other side showing... I don't think that it's as pretty, but then I'm not always right about things like that. Before Skirt Project is over, I will have to give the other side a go, bringing my total days (skirts) to 62. Oh what fun!

I'm supposed to go shopping later today. Boston does not add tax to clothing purchases... Wonder if I'll be able to restrain myself...

Doubt it.

Waiting for the E train, Green Line to Heath Street.

I bought a ring today; it's fun and sparkley, made of sequence. Cost $3. You can see it in this photo that I took in front of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum... This is the only place that I could take a picture.

I'm on top of the world!!! The Boston skyline from The Prudential Tower... nice... but not worth it.

Satisfied with my purchases. I stayed within my limit. Did I buy a skirt? Well, you'll just have to wait and see... It's getting late.

Skirt 36

It's Beacon Hill Day!

Is there a difference between herringbone and tweed?
I went to MIT and Harvard to find out...

I still don't know the answer.

Tired from my quest, I stopped in for a lite bite and a pint at Grafton Street in Cambridge. The food was ok, the company was great. Topped it off with sweet creme brule from Finale.

Today's skirt is funky, by Free People. Another purchase from Loehmann's while I was a teacher four years ago, I thought this skirt was cool. It's like a pencil skirt, except that it's a tad too big, so it flares ever so slightly. The hem hits right below knees. It's made of a "very smart" black and tan herringbone denim tweed with hints of red running vertically. The best feature about this skirt are the pockets. The right pocket is your average pocket, but the pocket on the left is about 12" long with a zipper in the middle, in case I don't feel like coming in from the top. That lonely zipper makes me thing Punk Rock! (fist pump) I always wanted to be punk. I loved their clothes...

I'll fix the lighting on these pics when I get back to big D...

Skirt 35

I'm not diggin' today's skirt. I feel like a chocolate cake.

This is one of those skirts that everyone else likes, but I can't get into. I know this is one of my mom's favorites. I bought it at Target last year for the Maya closing celebration at the Dallas Museum of Art. I thought the big embroidered flowers on it were Maya "looking" although I don't have any proof to back that up. I think I just wanted an excuse to buy something. While I think the skirt is cute, it's not really my style. But, I'm committed to SKirt Project. I may change my mind before the day is over. Hey, it's been known to happen.

BTW, tonight is the big Summer Concert from the summer concert series at the Dallas Museum of Art. Erykah Badu is performing this evening, FREE. Have fun guys!

Me and my step-mom... Double chocolate!

Skirt 34

My friend Kate, Skirt 18, has started a blog. Check it out. It's out of this world... a very cool planet.

I love the color red and I will pretty much buy any bottom if it's the right fabric and shade of red. I have three red skirts out of my 60,now 61. Today's skirt is a red, fine-wale, corduroy, A-line skirt from Lucky. I bought it on sale last January, for my birthday. I love Lucky brand; it's so bohemian and their jeans are A M A Z I N G ! I love the secret message on the fly. It's on my skirt too. Lucky Me!

If you are wondering about my shirt, it's by a local vendor Harrilu. I bought it last December at Spree Designer Showcase, a Dallas event not to be missed. Great shopping and original designs.

Skirt 33

It's blue today.

This is a fun skirt, and it's the second time I've worn it. I bought it last December at a new store called Martin & OSA. This company is for the more mature shopper and is affiliated with American Eagle, which I ♥. Anyway, it was on sale, and I thought that was the only reason I bought it. I think it was 60% off, a bargain... and I HAD to have it.

It's a pretty cute skirt, I can see why I bought it and why I got many compliments on it today. It's comes to my knees and is pleated all around the top. But I know the real reason I bought it... the fabric.

The fabric is 100% cotton and has a lot of sheen. It reminds me of the summer I lived in Valencia, Spain. I had this great pair of capri's made of similar fabric that I bought from El Corte Inglés, the Spanish equivalent of Macy's. The fabric takes me back to that great summer: sand, beach, paella and agua de Valencia… mmmmmmm. Take me away.

Lunch at Murray Street with Tay Tay, (Skirt 12). You call this service?

Naps with the one you love...
I'm jealous.
