Mega Skirt

Un garrobo...

Which is different than an iguana, but I'm not quite sure how.
Check out the seniors in the back ground playing with the parachute, proving that you're never too old to play with a parachute.

In Old Town off of Basilio Badillo, I went to Sun Silver to drop off my books at their Book exchange. It's a great store that features silver jewelry, but more as an art form. Katie gave me a beautiful piece, to fill my heart.

Kid Art of Vallarta in the Town Square off the Malecon.

Fiddler on the Roof skirts!

Break a leg y'all!

Another skirt that will forever remind me of Mexico... the skirt I bought at Mega Commerical.

7 days in Skirt 6

I was moved to tears when I went to teach nursery today. They made me a Good Luck / I Love You card. Then they made me laugh when they started to say Happy Birthday.

Jenn and I spent the afternoon in Pitillal, or Pity-City as I affectionately refer to it. I went to one of my student’s home to see his model city of the Zocalo in Mexico City.

Guy’s bird Fancy.

In Pitillal…
What’s over that hill?

Oh, just another hill…

Piña Coladas, Bossa Nova and sunsets... there’s not too much time left for this.

I love Skirt 6, but I didn't in the beginning... Even though I bought this skirt before I ever had an inkling or desire to move to Mexico, it will always remind me of Puerto Vallarta.

Skirt 7, 8 days

I'm really gonna miss the little ones.
I ♥ the hugs, the hello's, the smiles, their sense of wonder and play.

5 year old Frida took this picture after she chalk-outlined my body on the sidewalk.

Then I took her picture.

Brown Skirts

Didn't I wear this skirt last Monday?
yup.
I'm running out of options here. Plus, we're still painting the set today. It feels so weird to not be on Day Light Savings Time. I feel tired for all of my friends and family, but I still have a week and a half to get adjusted to it all.

I did one of my favorite projects from my elementary days with 3rd and 5th grade today. I drew a random squiggle or line on a white sheet of paper, and the kids had to create some sort of cartoon or image around it. 3rd grade had some great work, however I'm showing the one that had a skirt.

This could be the first panel in a comic,

and this could be the second panel.

Chicks and Skirts in San Pancho

Peep, peep, peep!
"Bienvenidos a San Pancho!"

These were some of the first locals to welcome us to San Pancho.

San Pancho is a small town, about 2,000 people, with a thriving culture and arts community. This is where you go when you want to get away from it all. The water is not really suitable for swimming, but the beaches are hardly crowded at all... perfect for sunning and letting it go.

Jennifer's skirt: so cute!

On our walk home from the beach there were a couple of gallery openings, but these weren't your typical art openings with wine and tequila.

People were super friendy, the art was ok... maybe that's why they serve tequila?

On our morning walk:
we found this beautiful garden.

Look up, platanos!

More chicks...
(look to the bottom right.)

These guys were a little older than the ones we saw yesterday.

Have you met my friend Mary?

She's with me where ever I go.

Strolling solo

The view: to my right...

and to my left.

sigh...

I tried to get a skirt shot of this little girl, but...

her smile is so much better.

Weekend Getaway Skirt

Skirt 21 is my original weekend getaway skirt, and that's exactly what I'm doing today at 2:30. My friend Jen and I are escaping to San Francisco, or San Pancho as it is affectionately called by the locals.
Just think: no kids, no sets, no thoughts about leaving in 10 days...
just sun, surf and me.

Set Skirt

I went to a new colonia this evening.
The view was spectacular...
(mi ciudad y el mar)
(los montañas)

as was the sun set (skirt).

Lyrics from Onerepublic's All We Are were scrawled all over my white board this morning when I walked into my classroom today. I thought they were interestingly relevant...

Teenagers... they are more perceptive than most people realize, that's why I like 'em.

Progressing right along with the sets...

I'm getting excited!

Is it Friday yet?

At school...
Skirt 38 and sneakers will carry me through, and hopefully make some significant progress on this set.
xoxo

Time to TCB in Skirt 33!

Long day today... my legs are pooped!

A haiku for Skirt 33:

5 classes today,
Painting sets between my breaks,
7 more days of school...

Ok, so the last line has an extra syllable, but I don't have time to work on it. Sheesh!

Elephants on Parade Skirt

It's SUPER TUESDAY!!!
What's so super about it?

There was an armadillo at school today. The kids were screaming; they had never seen one before, especially here in Vallarta.

That's the State Animal of Texas y'all!

Just this morning I learned that the Playa Los Muertos is named because of all the bodies that were strewn on the beach from a war over silver and gold in the late 1880s between pirates and the natives.

And this was where I ended up this evening. I wasn't the only one, the whales showed up too... It's amazing what you can almost miss if you aren't paying attention.

The Primaries are being held in Texas today, and while I'm not a Republican I thought I would wear my elephant skirt in political spirit. I'm also wearing it because I adore Lauren, my friend who gave it to me. I get so many compliments when I wear this skirt and the kids like it.

In many cultures, elephants with their trunks pointing up symbolize good luck. The trunks on my skirt are not pointing up, but they are joined together... I wonder what that means?

Lucky in l♥ve???

13 skirts and counting

Where does the time go? I'll be home in 16 days, which means there are 13 skirts left here. Last night I packed suitcase full of them to send home.

"That's an awful lot of brown..."

I'm not sure what's going to happen when I get back... I guess the same thing that happens everyday:
L I F E

Here are some skirt shots from this past weekend.
My first and only visitor Karen came to see me this weekend.
Here's Karen's skirt in Sayulita:

Here I am wearing the necklace that Moises made just for me! It only cost me $250 pesos.

We also went to Jarretederas this past weekend to visit Pat, a woman from Colorado who hosts a sewing circle and English classes in her home every Saturday. Besides helping women in Denver, for the past 4 years Pat has brought fabric and sewing machines to Mexico that she donates to the women in her small village. For the 6 months that Pat lives in Mexico, a group of about 14 women gather to exchange ideas and learn to sew new projects. Hopefully, I will be coming back later to do a Skirt Project with the women.

Check out this dress that was made from donated fabric. The blouse I'm wearing was actually a dress for a little girl. But after I put it on, Leticia decided to add some darts and a zipper for a woman's blouse.

Can you see why Pat does it all?
